We hope you are well and enjoying a lovely Labor Day weekend! Today we are returning to learning about reining, specifically direct reining. Direct reining is a way to steer your horse that uses both hands. A majority of our participants here at JHTR begin their reining lessons by learning to direct rein. It is a wonderful, and very useful skill to know!
Begin your lesson this week with the JHTR How to Neck Rein at Home video with Instructor Samantha (and check out how much snow was on the ground when she filmed this back in May!). Next, use the attached task analysis of direct reining to get ready to practice your skills. Join Samantha, and her husband Joey (who is also a dedicated JHTR volunteer) as they demonstrate how to practice direct reining with a partner in this video: JHTR Practice Direct Reining at Home. Lastly, create an at home obstacle course and challenge yourself and your reining skills just like you would here at JHTR!
Stay well everyone!
